Huron, Chicago, IL Phone : 1-800-545-2433 In an effort to support libraries that assist the Spanish-speaking population, the American Library Association (ALA) has published a version of the Library Advocates Handbook in Spanish. Widely-used by library advocates through ALA’s Library Advocacy Now! Network, and distributed through the ALA Public Information Office, the Library Advocate’s Handbook contains tips for speaking to the media, working with legislators, and building an advocacy network. The brochure can be viewed and downloaded free of charge.

Box 832 Anaheim, CA 92815-0832 Email : jruiz@fergusonlibrary.org Established in 1971 as an affiliate of the American Library Association (ALA), REFORMA has actively sought to promote the development of library collections to include Spanish-language and Latino oriented materials; the recruitment of more bilingual and bicultural library professionals and support staff; the development of library services and programs that meet the needs of the Latino community; the establishment of a national information and support network among individuals who share our goals; the education of the U.S. Latino population in regards to the availability and types of library services; and lobbying efforts to preserve existing library resource centers serving the interests of Latinos.

Email : sandyL@mail.utexas.edu SALALM's primary missions are the control and dissemination of bibliographic information about all types of Latin American publications and the development of library collections of Latin Americana in support of educational research. Promotion of cooperative efforts to achieve better library service is an equally important activity. SALALM is also concerned with the special problems of librarians of Latin America and the Caribbean and with library development in those areas. Providing library materials for the Spanish-and Portuguese-speaking populations in the United States is another field of interest.

California Cooperative Latin American Collection Development Group

The California Cooperative Latin American Collection Development Group, better known as CALAFIA, is a consortium of California libraries. CALAFIA enjoys the support and strength of the libraries at Stanford University, the University of California System, and the University of Southern California. The combined Latin American holdings of the CALAFIA group number more than one million volumes and are surpassed only by the Library of Congress’ Latin American Studies Collection.

LAMP
The Latin American Microform Project

Email : simon@crl.edu The purpose of the Latin American Microform Project (LAMP) is to acquire, preserve and maintain for its subscribers microform collections of unique, scarce, rare and/or bulky and voluminous research materials pertaining to Latin America. The Project emphasizes original filming, though it may also purchase existing microfilm. The Project conducts its activities on the basis of annual subscription fees, plus outside resources including grant funds as appropriate.

The consortium seeks to promote collaborative projects that enhance the depth and scope of the combined collections and to facilitate access to them. The information available on this site is intended not only for the use of LANE members, but also for researchers who may have an interest in learning about the availability of Latin American research resources in the region.

Latin Americanist Research Resources Project

Its principal goal is to expand access to Latin American research resources by promoting a distributed model of library cooperation, enhanced electronic access, and effective document delivery. Participants include forty-seven libraries and five Latin American Partner Institutions.
